April 08 - June 08 old index page

To older index from January - March 08To newer index from July - September 08
  • Friday, 27th June 2008,

    • Thursday night was a long-long night.  A major market called Rejowinangun in Magelang that occupies more than 20.000 sqm area and houses hundreds or thousands of kiosks was burnt.  That the very place that I took this picture about three or four months ago.  When I visit that place last night, it was all fire.  It is lucky that the fire took place after the market is closed, therefore no one is killed.

    • The fire is huge and can be seen from few kilometres away.  Some people said that mice that eats cables causes short contact that causes fire, some other said that a since the electricity was down, some people lid candle on textile shop.  Since some people were playing, they accidentally drops the candle into the textile the causes fire.  However there are rumours that said the market was deliberately burned by some asshole (sorry for this words)!  Just wait for the official investigation!

    • Although I managed to snap some pictures, due to social reasons, I've decided not to share the picture here.

  • Thursday, 26th June 2008,

    • I missed two excellent shots last week!  Why?  It was on a full moon when the moon is rising just above a mountain range.  Full moon combined with dark mountain and clear dark blue sky is very beautiful, I wanted to capture that, it's a pity not not bringing any camera with me!  Well, that is because at that time I was returning from business trip, and I did not bring my camera.  I wanted to go to that spot next month to take the picture may be with tripod and new 55-250 lens (if I had bought that), hopefully God will give me another chance to capture his artistic masterpiece.

    • And the other shot I miss is when I was going to Semarang's Cheng He temple, the infamous Sam Poo Kong temple.  I saw combination of clear blue sky and the magnificent temple is wonderful.  Again I also did not bring any camera with me!  Well, accompanying people praying does not mean that I should not bring any camera with me.

    • And for this site, I've put site meter on it, dunno how it will works tough.

    • Then on I've put a dedicated page on average down on my investment page and streamlined the currency converter due to complaints from some viewer that said it is too slow to load the page.

  • Sunday, 22nd June 2008,

    • I've just visited a Buddhist conference on Jogja, that is they are opening a new Materiya Temple.   The temple is not what you might imagine, standard Buddhist temple with strong Chinese Forbidden Palace style, this temple is closer resembling to modern Christian Church.  Their main teaching is love, that we should love animals, nature and person around us.  To show that we love animals is by treating the animals as our brothers, so we should not eat them.  I think that is enough for now, since my site is not religion related site, so I won't discuss religion here.

    • Now go back to not eating animal, which means becoming a vegetarian.  I'm a vegetarian since I was a born, well I eat egg and drink milk and tried to eat meat before, managed to eat meat ball, but still can't enjoy it (In fact I wanted to vomit every time I ate meat, but off course I can't vomit a restaurant!  Then my tear drops in holding my vomit).  So I continue become a vegetarian.

    • A lot of my friends were saying that I'm insane, since I don't eat meat.  However I'm happy not eating meat, I feel sad when blood is spilled just to fed me!  Moreover I feel pity to meat eater, especially after reading an article at healthy season that says that vegetarian will live longer and healthier.  So I decided to spread the word further via my site.

    • Anyway for an intermezzo, I just put a funny link here about what Indonesian call Indonesia.  Please open it!

  • Wednesday, 18th June 2008

    • I've decided to put diggs on my site, then tried to streamline my index page.  It has been growing overtime and I'm afraid that the index will someday become too big and too slow to load even on broadband.

    • Soon my photography and investment page will be streamlined by putting longer article on separate page.

    • So sorry for the bugs that might appears on this site.  It is very late and I need some sleep after long journey home...  Will be fixed ASAP.

  • Tuesday, 17th June 2008

    • Last Saturday I was not very happy when the Telkomsel customer support states that Huawei E 220 can't be used with the Flash.  They said that I should buy the Flash branded Huawei E 220 in order to use Telkomsel Flash, this is ridiculous considering the Flash can be used with any mobile phone, but it can't be used with Huawei.  Then I searched on the net and I find how to use Flash with Huawei.  It is simple, so you only need to change the APN number to Static and its value to 'internet', and the other setting uses the standard setting.  Please open this link to find the detailed explanation.  If I think bad about Telkomsel, I could conclude that they wanted to sell more Flash branded Huawei, a common trick used here in Indonesia.  If I think good about Telkomsel, I conclude their customer service was not educated enough with their new product.

    • From my experience with my company's driver, I find that most of them could not take advantages from advanced engine technology.  Therefore I decided to write a special section on how to drive advanced engine here.

  • Friday, 13th June 2008

    • It is Friday the 13th!  For ones who believe the please be more careful!  Today I've just visited a mourning family because one of the family member is deceased, and tonight I will visit another two unrelated families for the same reason!  What a coincidence, all on Friday the 13th

    • Many people said that they have bought wrong car and become dissatisfied with the car.  Choosing a right car begins on test driving.  Here are my tips on how to test drive a car on dealer.

  • 12 June 2008,

    • My cousin sister just released her music blog!  She is a musical, computer and math genius.  Only a bit shy.  She planned to release musical notes of new songs.  Please open here to read it!

    • I've put another abstract picture of dirt on roof top.  Well, the picture shows the depth of field and very simple, you will either like it or not, end of the story.  It is lonely, a piece of wood on metal roof, and the other things are rock.  The depth of field gives even further impressions that the wood is really lonely.  Please don't ask me how do I get into the position, trust me you don't want to do it, and please don't try it at home!

    • I just realised that some of my picture looks awful on CRT display.  It displays so well under my LCD and on my camera, but become underexposed on CRT.

    • For the happy news, I just got an invitation to photograph food for cooking book!  Well, I've never been in professional photography before, hopefully I can behave professionally and make excellent pictures.  I'll tell you more information on the book later!

  • 9 June 2008,

    • Have you ever seen how LCD's crystal is arranged your screen?  I have a shot of my LCD using EOS 400 D with 18-55 lens at only few cm distance (about 8 cm).  On the left picture, you can see my LCD crystal is arranged in RGB configuration.  This shot quality is not very sharp due to the limited lens resolution.  Please note on the middle of the image, the colour on the screen becomes blue, and the red colour switches off and becomes black and blue element become brighter.  While on the black, all the colours switches off.

The LCD crystal is actually consisted of three small rectangles each has Red, Green and Blue colour and arranged very neatly next to each other in small black square.  Please see the right picture for the illustration.  I saw it when I use a handheld carding wire microscope which I got from Graf for free.  If you have a loupe or microscope with 40x magnification, you can point it to LCD to see it.  It is amazing that tiny dots of red, green and blue could create thousands of colours.

    • When I saw a news on TV few days ago, I was very surprised the legendary Indonesian martial arts about invincibility is truly exists!  The invincible man was really exists, but unfortunately he is not kind hearted!  At that time, he committed murderer and the police wanted to catch him.  However he fights back and police, both undercover or uniformed, decided to give him shot as his legs.  To their surprise, when the bullet hits his legs, he did not suffer any damage!  Thus withstand 107 shots from the police's handgun and riffle without any hurt as if his body was shielded with invisible shield.  However at the end of the day, the elders told police about his weakness and the police managed to put him died in custody.  Please open this youtube (warning: this link contains some cruelty that might not be suitable to some of you) link then you can see this invincible man.

  • 6 June 2008,

    • I've decided that I'll only put summary of copy of writings here and talk in depth on each section.  E.g. my photography writing will be explained more detailed on photography section.

    • Yesterday I've attended a diklat - pendidikan kilat literally translated to fast education or fast-ed? - about renewable energy source from bio ethanol.  I would not put all the details here since it would be too much, but one thing for sure I'll try to use E85 to power my 5 years old Kymco motorcycle.

    • For less experienced photographer, I've added a tip on photographing.  Now I'll use mountain picture for the example.  The mountain is called Merapi - literally translated to volcano - located north west of Magelang.  All of the picture is the same volcano taken on the same day only from different location.  Believe me, they are taken in my kit EFS 18-55.  In my opinion, the last picture (most left) is the most interesting one.  Can you see the reason why the last picture is the most interesting?  Please click here for the explanation.  The summary is make picture that can tell a story.

  • 3  June 2008,

    • Is a happy day!  I've received a big gain in my PNBN-W, which I bought in 10 March 2008 for 210, and sold today at 320.  It is 51.2% gain in less than 3 months!  If you wonder what kind of business can give ROI like that, and moreover with no depreciation, only drug dealing could rival, but it is illegal.

    • I still remember that I sold my BNGA-W on 13 May 2008 at 400 (bought in 3 March 2008 for 310), I received gain for about 29%.  Why don't I wait until today so I could get 64%?  Well, that because I need money to buy other stock that I believe more profitable.

  • 2 June 2008,

    • At least I've got back my camera.  As promised, here I give you the picture of distortion made by dirt in my lens.  All in article of how to identify dirt in sensor or lenses.

    • I've made some picture of light scribes, made randomly on bumpy roads in a car ride.  I only made one that is pretty good, since it is all random.  I'll show you the best here off course with reduced resolution, and please click it to see it in 720i HD glory.  I call this racing light.

      • racing light

    • And here is the fun part for today, on June the 1st I've arrived in Jogjakarta to take picture of a car model in Auto BlackTrough 2008.  The car uses synthetic leather that is laser engraved by the machine that I sell!  When a took the picture, a very attractive young girl arrives and I decided to took her picture with this modification masterpiece.  I'm sorry that I could only took one picture due to my limited time there.  Please click each picture to download the larger version of it.

  • 31 May 2008,

    • I've update my investment portfolio to Warrant Buffet style portfolio, not much of his style, but it appears that his writing way is much more sophisticated compared to mine.  I feel that Mr Buffet's style is more comfortable to use and read than my old buy and sell style.

    • And moreover I've fixed my photography navigation bug.  Well, I admit this is very embarrassing, as a Computer Scientist make bugs in simple things :P

  • 28 May 2008,

    • I've write a photography article on lens sharpness.  It is not about comparing lens sharpness, but how to use sharp lens for less experienced photographer, based on my personal experience.  It is not for a full time experienced pro with arsenals of good lenses.

  • 24 May 2008,

    • Another stock market crash. Yay, its shopping time...

  • 20 May 2008,

  • 7 May 2008,

    • I've make my website to comply with XHTML 1.1 standard.  It took me 2 hours of doing that, lucky me that my site is not very large!  I did not change my old index page, since I wanted it as is.  And for photography gallery, i still leave it as before.

    • Yesterday I found a problem with my internet connection.  First I taught that my modem caused the failure.  Then I tried to open modem's help, and it points to a website on the internet!  I still could not figure out why do they did this.  The modem manufacturer should have expected that when somebody needs to read help, he or she is in trouble, and trouble with modem means cannot open the internet!  So where to get help?

  • 5 May 2008,

    • I've read a book about Warren Buffet, the greatest investor of all time.  His investment strategy is very good, and seems to be too good to be true.  But it is working.  Read my investment page for more details.

  • 2 May 2008,

    • 1 May was labour day, as usual, a big strike happens asking for increase in standard salary.

    • Yesterday I have two computers on my table, one Mac Book Mini and one Chinese Hasee.  Those laptop had 13 inch LCD, and about the same size and weight.  That makes me wanted to do an unfair comparison between them.  Here I compare a Mac Book and Hasee.

      • Let me begin with the Hasee, it is cheap, very cheap, around USD 500 brand new.  Powered by AMD Turion 64 @ 1.6 G, 512 DDR Ram, 40 G Hitachi drive with SIS chipset and integrated graphics, come without an OS.  I need to put another 100 USD for the Windows XP.

      • The Mac Book is 3 times more expensive, about USD 1500 brand new.  Powered by Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 G, 1 G DDR2 Ram, 120 G Seagate drive.  It come with another Unix distro, Mac OS X (I suspect X here is from Unix).

      • According to the spec, the Mac Book's has 3 times more firepower compared to Hasee at 3 times of price, and Mac book comes with a free OS.  Is it worth it?  I believe the answer is yes, if you like to use the Mac OS.  If you don't, it will cost you more money to invest a Windows on the Mac.  So just get another laptop with Windows preinstalled!

    • I saw a government advertisement, Indonesia, the ultimate in diversity.   Wonder why?  Just open this link, a bit satire and only for the strong hearted!  And only for FUN!

  • 25 April 2008,

    • It has been a while since I last update my site, it will be a while before I can update my picture gallery, since I send my EOS 400D to repair centre. The sensor got dusty and I've found the inside lens is chipped, so I send it to Canon for claiming the warranty and cleaning the sensor at the same time. It is confusing how come the inside lens become chipped. May be it is a factory defect. The interesting thing is for 99% of the time, there is no problem with the picture. When I got the camera back, I'll put the picture result from chipped lens here.

    • I've just realised that some people here, when speaking word 'Indonesia', did not use I, but uses E instead, so it read Endonesia. It is quite funny considering the word uses I but we speaks E. But it is not a problem. Indonesian just does not like to be called Indon, prefer to be called Indo, just like Chinese do with Sino.

    • Testdriving the new Toyota Vios (Yaris Sedan) is a very thrilling experience. The car is very swift, yet safe. It has ABS, EBD with BA that allow me to driver faster and do more extreme manouvers.

    • After that I test drive the Toyota Yaris, Although they share the same small 1.5L engine, the Yaris runs faster than Vios, thanks to her lighter body. Yaris feels just like a sport car!

  • 18 April 2008,

    • Update on programming page, concept in digital image stabiliser.  If Canon allows me to access their SDK firmware for the EOS 400D, I'd like to program the digital image stabiliser on my camera.  But that is next to impossible.

  • 16 April 2008,

    • I've bought another warrant as investment.  The price is good for averaging down my current investment, which is I paid too high.

    • In order to maintain internal tidiness, I've decided to change some of page's URL on my site, this made the Google search would not return correct result for the changed URL.

  • 15 April 2008,

    • It has been quite a busy week, not many updates, but I've put navigation update and investment update, including comments on Averaging Down strategy.

    • Added new Indonesian problem to be solved, the Energy Crisis.

  • 7 April 2008,

    • Navigation upgrade in my site.  I believe the fewer link on top of my page make my site much easier to navigate.  About me and contact me link is now combined and moved to my name next to the copyright marker.  And CV link is now located in my home page.

    • Moreover now the dwt's are attached in all files!  This make maintaining the page whole lot easier.

  • 6 April 2008,

    • At least I can use Huawei E220 to connect my Windows XP x64 machine to the internet!  I use a fiddled version of Vista x64 driver that I found somewhere on the net.  I'm really thankful to the poster, which I don't know the name.  I'm not sure whether this is legal, but the driver works pretty well for me!

  • 5 April 2008,

    • Changed navigation bar, now I've put my family tree on about me page to give more space on the top of my page and putting some links on the family tree.

    • I've visited BandungTex 2008 on 4 April 2008.  BandungTex is one of the biggest textile exhibition in Indonesia.  The exhibitors, many come from overseas, are showing their latest advancement in textile technology.  I have a good time there, and decided to share it with you.  Here I present you the girl of BandungTex, under my Beauties of BandungTex 2008 gallery.  Note: please don't ask me whether they are real Bandung girl, what are their name or where do they come from!
