To older index from January - March 08To newer index from July - September 09
  • Friday, 26th June 2009,

    • My longest update interval yet...  I just returned from business trip in China.  That was not only business trip, I also went to Fuqing to meet my family.

      • Jiedi

    • This girl in the picture above is called Meilin (美琳) and Xiaotao.  They are my nephew and niece.  Meilin is a very clever girl and she loves to take pictures.  So I lend her my EOS 400 D set in portrait mode, and she make beautiful pictures of her cousins!  That is, creativity!  Capturing people's expression at their funniest!

      • happy photographer

      • happy kid

    • Those are pictures that was taken by a 10 years old girl!  Although there are some weakness in the composition, I felt that those images are very nice indeed!

    • Compare this to the picture that I snapped!

      • Local artist can draw your picture in less than 10 minutes.  Just watch for his wife!

      • local painter

      • She is being Drawn by the local artist

      • drawn

      • This hungry baby is my lovely nephew!

      • hungry baby

      • A very cute expression from my 9 months old nephew!  FYI, he is eating our pizza!

      • Parking lot in Shenzhen

      • parking lot building

      • Although this picture has plenty of dynamic lines, I feel this picture not creative as if I have seen a same picture before.  I honestly did not duplicate this picture from some other websites, however I engineer this picture to gave it dynamic angles.

      • Although some people says it is nice, I felt that this parking lot picture is boring!

      • Wing of Airbus A320

      • Wing of A320

      • Love it or hate it!  This picture is my sister's favourite!

      • To be continued...  This will be merged to All About Creativity!

    • When boarding a plane I always check for life vest, and this is the first time I flew without one!  Anyway, I flew a brand new Boeing 737-800 and I can't find a life vest under my seat!  Then I look around to find the safety leaflet and on the seat pocket I find this leaflet (click to view larger size)

      • seat cushion

    • And this just in front of my nose

      • seat cushion

    • When I asked the stewardess, she answered since the plane won't flew above sea a life vest is unnecessary!  Well, she lied to me since I saw the plane flew for a few minutes over the water!

    • So, my conclusion is: just in case something really wrong happens, I only had seat cushion for my floatation.  Although I'm adept in swimming, I'd love to have life vest to assist me floating!  Hopefully the airliner will check for life vest thoroughly next time!

    • I also took 2 butterfly pictures Natural Batik and Create an Angle, available in this Butterfly Hunting tips to replace the old butterfly picture with newer and better one!

    • That's for today, as it is very late in Indonesia.  There will be more pictures and articles soon!

  • Monday, 8th June 2009,

    • I welcome you to attend our PT. Golden Sun Indonesia's Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine exhibition at Festival Komputer Indonesia in Jogja Expo Center from 10th to 14th June 2009.  For people who love to see booth babes, our booth babes were not only good looking, they are also well trained on their field.

    • This article just happens to be the best article of Guru 3D in 2009.  This article is titled Girls of Computex.  It always the girl that brought the guys in, and the hardware and gadgets are just complimentary.  Enjoy!

    • Moreover, I also find an article done by weirdo that compares the camera of Sony Ericsson K800i to Canon EOS 5D and 350D.  He also has an interesting conclusion: 'as long as you're carrying your phone, you'll never miss a shot because you left your camera at home'.  That's the whole point of having a mobile phone camera.

    • I have never expected that other people did this kind of comparison as I've did comparison of camera in Samsung SGH i780 to my EOS 400 D before.

  • Thursday, 28th May 2009,

    • I have designed The Shop to operate as simple as possible by using registration less process.  The the user will then fill their shipping detail when they checked out and buying the item.  Remember, the simpler the better!

    • The payment is made in a few easy options, including Cash on Delivery, Bank Transfers, SMS and Internet Banking.  Credit card billing and Paypal is still under preparation.  Well, that because I don't have credit card, so I can't bill credit card.  My credit card is being processed anyway.

    • Moreover I will open several bank account so buyer can easily pay without any hassle.

    • FYI, in the future, buyer can choose between registering or not registering with the shop.  For frequent buyer, it is better to register since his or her information will be automatically available, however some incidental buyer might prefer not to register, since it is a waste of time.

    • As if I'm running out of idea, I will now share how do I set optimise and use my camera which is for me is the optimum setting.  Although for others that setting might not be the most optimum.  It is certainly important to read and share.

    • I have updated my 2009 Toyota Corolla review, on its acceleration section.

    • Now I have a wishlist to keep my wishes!  And no, it is not the kind wish like get married anytime soon!

  • Monday, 25th May 2009,

    • Now I will share our printing company's employee profile, only the one that I had the picture.  Today is the profile of our electrical engineer.  She is a cute young girl.  However despite her appearance she has an impressive working experience in a real computer chip manufacturing plant.  You might be reading this website from a computer with a chip that she manufacture anyway.  All the job she had here is way too easy for her I believe.

      • verga mawarsari

    • Just sharing her picture, I have no intention to make this site Facebook or Friendster :)

    • FYI, I have upgraded my web hosting to run PHP 5 now.  It should not be a problem to upgrade from PHP 4 to PHP 5 since my web application was designed natively in PHP 5 with PHP 4 compatibility in mind.  Now I can make use all the advanced functionality of PHP 5 and hopefully PHP 5 will be faster and more stable compared to PHP 4.

  • Sunday, 24th May 2009,

    • You might wonder what did I do these time and not updating my website.  Besides mourning, I also working on writing my online shop website project.  For now I'll call the online shop project as The Shop (unofficial name).  The Shop is still unnamed yet and I need suggestion from you!  I would me more than happy to receive any suggestion for my shop's name!

    • Moreover my business permit for The Shop is still under registration,  (that's due I have not decided the name) therefore as per today I put random business permit and registration number there.  Moreover I can't sell anything legally at this moment!

    • I currently test The Shop's page generator engine for compatibility with my hosting, therefore I bring it online today.  This shop uses management engine which I wrote back in year 2005.  It is the very same engine used in DV One software that I wrote for DV Computer in Australia and Web Management software for PT. Golden Sun Indonesia's website.  The engine used is already proven over time (4 years of use in DV computer without any problem and in computer world, 4 years is almost forever!)

    • Unlike the software in DV Computer and PT. Golden Sun Indonesia which runs in native mode, I run The Shop's web site software in hybrid mode.  That is taking the advantage of the power and flexibility from PHP while covered by beautiful skin crafted from WYSIWYG editor (although the skin were not here yet).

    • Moreover the engine has been updated to be compatible with HTML 4.01 Strict specification to ensure compatibility with every browser and any devices.

    • For those reason, that is why I need to retest the engine first, to see whether she can work well in this mode!

    • Please forgive me there are no item available on The Shop.  Items will be added gradually starting from tomorrow!

    • Anyway, please enjoy my taught on High Dynamic Range imaging (HDR)!  This article was written in my Samsung SGH-i780 Windows Mobile PDA, and then finalised and uploaded from my computer!  I really wanted to create a script that will take an article I've submitted in text with a few HTML elements to display on this website automatically from by sending an email to myself to be processed here on this server from my PDA!  But I'll reserve that for one fine day!

  • Friday, 15th May 2009,

    • Our beloved grandmother passed away on last Wednesday the 13th 2009.  We are currently mourning for her in local funeral home, Dharma Magelang, Jalan Singosari no 33 Magelang.  Her burial service will be held on Sunday 17th May 2009 at TPU Soropadan.

    • Rest in Peace ama...

  • Thursday, 7th May 2009,

  • Saturday, 2nd May 2009,

    • Another update from Sony Lin: it is all about creativity!  This article encourages reader to make thing as creative as possible, not by duplicating other's works.  Reading this article will help you to find the creative side of you and raise your ideas.  Have fun in reading the article!  I hope it will amuse you!

    • My grand mother is about to be operated on 12.00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time GMT +7) Sunday, 3rd May 2009 in Jogja International Hospital.  Readers, please do me a favour to do a short prayer to help her at least spiritually.  Since every little bit of prayer would help here.

  • Thursday, 23rd April 2009,

  • Monday, 20th April 2009,

    • After few days of using Blackberry Bold, I realised its greatest weakness.  The battery!  Although she did not use it very often, the battery barely last one day with my sister's using pattern.

    • Canon EOS 500 D / Rebel T1i is just released.  Although I have not tried this camera by myself, I believe it is a very good camera.  The points that made this camera interesting for me are:

      • VGA LCD display: with 920.000 pixels, the display should be able to show super sharp image

      • Ultra high ISO up to 12.800, which means bringing fewer and lighter lenses, however this is useful when the images were clear at this ISO.

      • Automatic ISO, I wish Canon give firmware update on 400D/XTi to make it support Auto ISO.

      • Highlight tone priority to keep highlights coloured instead of just blew to white.

      • Auto Lightning Optimiser to help optimise the shadow

      • Anti Smudge LCD.  It would be great if this works really well!

      • Image Stabilised lens which come as standard.

    • That's all that I could tell right now.  What I don't really use features are

      • Live View

      • Face Detection

      • HD Movie

    • One reason why don't I put the T1i's specification is they are all available on Canon's website here.

    • How about the large megapixel number?  I'm not sure about this, but usually more megapixels means the smaller pixel size.  This means the pixel will receive less photons compared to larger pixel size.  Therefore this results in more noise when compared to smaller megapixel camera.

      • We are not in 2002 anymore, where every pixel count.  At 10 MP, my 400D/XTi could deliver sharp picture printed at 10R size (approx 20 x 30 cm).  Any SLR at 10 MP will have similar performance.  DXO Mark has shown that 400D/XTi's sensor is superior in all aspect, but number of pixels compared to 450D/XSi's sensor.

      • Back in 2002, every megapixel counts since they are only 1.3 MP camera, and viewing on a monitor requires them to be viewed in 100%, one pixel on the camera is mapped to a to pixel on the monitor.  While printed at 300 DPI - the resolving power of our eyes to an image viewed on reading distance of about 30cm or 1 feet - 1.3 MP image could only be print 10 cm wide, any larger size will blew up the image.

      • In the other hand, the image of a 3 MP camera is a much better compared to the 1.3 MP camera.  The 1.7 MP difference made a huge difference when viewed on computer screen or print, that is why every pixel counts here!

      • Moreover large megapixel camera will make a perfectly good old lens looks bad!  Why?  The problem lies on the sensor, with even more resolution over the good old lens's resolving power, this will make the perfectly good and fine lens's image blurs!

    • That was my opinion on megapixels.  I'll write some more when I have time!

    • Update on my verdict in using Samsung i780 Windows Mobile 6.1 PDA Phone.  Don't be surprised reading that!

    • Update on my Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 filter review!

    • A cheat to get sharp picture!

  • Wednesday, 15th April 2009,

    • My sister got a brand new Blackberry Bold and I have a peak at it.  This is what do I feel at glance

      • It has a good keyboard, much better than Samsung's keyboard

      • Good display with much better resolution and lively colour.  My i780's display is only good for 65536 colours and can't render gradation properly, I believe the Bold has more of them therefore bitmaps displays better on the Bold.

      • I love its 360° trackball.  This trackball as a feel, and requires a tiny little bit push work.  I love this, since this will reduce accidental movement.  Moreover the trackball can scroll a page when it hits the page border!  I wish my i780 could do this!  However I prefer i780's optical mouse since my experience shows trackball is prone to dirt and I use my mobile phone heavily and sometimes in dirty location.

      • What a pity it has no touch screen.  This Bold's weakest area!  I love touch screen and I use it a lot!  Loosing touch screen on a big screen device made me fell of really loosing something.  Well that may be just for me, since I'm used to touch screen.

      • The Bold is fast!

      • Smart interface enables fast operation even for novice users.  A leap from i780 that can be operated only by hackers.  Hahaha...

    • The conclusion is the Blackberry Bold is a very good mobile phone.  With is fast and user friendly interface, Bold can be used to change your laptop in doing daily works!

  • Saturday 11th April 2009,

    • I've had tried my friend's EOS 1000 D / XS, and this is my first glance at EOS 1000 D / XS

    • I won't put any detailed specification here, since every other website has it.  The conclusion is EOS 1000 D / Rebel XS is a nice camera.  Here is what I loved about the EOS 1000 D

      • I love the AF speed and accuracy, which works much better and more accurate on marginal light than the EOS 400 D's AF.

      • I love the auto ISO which allow me to put all the operation in Automatic, therefore I can focus even more in composition and exposure without worrying the ISO.

      • I love that it sounds smooth, much smoother than the EOS 400 D's.  It shutter speed is smooth and flash opening is also very smooth.

      • I love the shadow management on the XS (Auto Lighting Optimiser).

      • Live view is good, however I don't really like it, since the good old view finder is better and faster.

      • IS lens which comes as standard.

    • What I don't like about the EOS 1000 D

      • It feels bigger but lighter than the XTi, therefore the XTi feels more solid.

      • No highlight tone priority.

      • 7-AF points, instead of 9 on XTi and XSi.

      • No proximity sensor to shut the rear view LCD off.

    • The conclusion is: get one if you wanted to have an SLR.  EOS 1000 D is a good entry level DSLR with all features that is needed by a beginner!  Moreover, that is Canon's cheapest DSLR.  PS: you'll love the even more AF points on the bigger Canons!  Don't try to use the bigger Canon if you have decided to get this camera, since you will suddenly love the more AF points available!

    • My latest hunting result:

      • hen's love

      • Mother's love never ends, although she is just a hen, she tries to fed her chicks first.  It was made on a beautiful morning and they were lit by golden sunshine.  Then I enhance the sunshine's gold colour even further to create the gold accented image.

      • Moreover, this image is a crop from a middle of an image, throwing away 90% of the image.  Luckily I had an super sharp lens, that even though the image was enlarged to this size (100+%), it still sharp.  Read how to take advantage of sharp lens for more information.

      • Why do I crop this heavy?  It is almost impossible to get this close to a hen and her chicks and making this shot using the EF 50 mm f/1.8 lens!

      • hen guarding her chicks

      • A hen guarding her chicks from an auspiciously big photographer with a big freaky camera!

      • The last image is an image which I usually won't take or even hang on the wall, however since this image has a very special power, I've decided to took it anyway.  You can see a factory in Magelang (perhaps coal boiler) polluting the otherwise a fine morning with beautiful sunrise & moonset.  You can even see the moon is setting above the roof and it's texture clearly.  Please scroll down to enjoy it, if you can!  I hope the government will ask the factory's CEO to put a water scrubber system to reduce the smoke.

      • polluting the morning

      • This image has 3 elements and that's it.  Polluting factory, clearsky and the moon that made this image extraordinary.

      • What are the other pictures that I've made?  Few beautiful but ordinary sunrise over the farm, clouds over the mountain range, river bank with people dropping their 'stuff' (sorry guys, but I don't know that he was there when taking the picture), few pictures of Candi Mendut (Mendut Temple) which like what the others are taking!

      • Ok, I admit when I was taking Candi Mendut picture, I made few mistakes.  The Temple was black and the sun is just rising on the side and somewhat behind the temple and making one side of the temple glowing gold and the other side was black and it was beautiful.  So is with the sky, full of colours, ranging from orange to blue.  Isn't it cool?  Yes it is cool, beautiful and also very hard to capture since this is one of the most challenging situation often encountered!

      • When I try to capture the sky's colour, the temple becomes too dark and loosing its brilliant golden shine.  Then, when I tried to get the temple's golden shine, the sky becomes washed out.  Therefore I tried to did my best to compromise the exposure between the sky and the temple.

      • I've decided to make it capture the image with just enough temple image and just enough sky.  This result in approx 2 stops overexposed sky and 2 stops underexposed temple.  Therefore I select the sky then darken and resaturate it.  Blue - orange sky is the result from this process.

      • This made the sky to show noises and shows colour shifts from one spectrum to the others.  Therefore to make the sky's colour blend nicely, I use Gaussian blur and voila, the sky was near to what I've seen when I was taking the picture.  Blue sky above my head, and oranges horizon.

      • Since the temple's exposure and colour complies to what I'm intended to, I've decided not to change anything but only to sharpened it.

      • Now, combining the whole picture to one beautiful picture results in a nice picture.  I decided to edit the picture even more, to make the golden reflection on the temple's wall closer to the sky's colour and making the image even contrasty.  Therefore I increase its saturation and contrast and that results in this picture!

      • Final note to the picture: when cropped exactly on the middle therefore resulting a rectangle shaped crop or cutting the top most part of the picture to get 4:3 image will make this picture looks a whole lot more interesting!

      • Sunrise in Mendut

      • No ND filter can do this, and I think only a camera with HTP or higher dynamic range to capture all the colour available and properly executed HDR could do this (improperly executed HDR will result in flat and boring image!)

      • I'll cover this deeper in my comments on HDR imaging page which I'm writing right now!  One sentence about HDR: I don't like HDR since it wastes my time.

  • Tuesday, 7th April 2009,

  • Sunday, 5th April 2009,

    • It's been a long time since the last time I update this website.  2 weeks outdated is almost forever in internet.  Haha...  I'm still alive and well, albeit busy and catching some flu.

    • I'm changing all of the page, on this website to compressed PHP file in order to reduce loading time.  In the mean time, the PHP and htm/l file will coexists, therefore the bookmarks will open the old page and search engine will also open the old file.  While waiting them updated, as time goes by, I will change all the htm/l to redirect page and there will be no new page in htm/l.  I'm really very sorry for RSS user, your RSS client might download the PHP and report it as new file.

    • My website is also now closer to XHTML 1.0 T and some even comply to XHTML 1.0 S specification!  I've changed its template and few pages, then I'll change the new pages only, so it will not only render faster, but also more consistent with newer browsers.  The older page will not be touched unless it absolutely needs to or it is updated by the template.  I've even removed some advertisement that is not compatible with XHTML 1.0 T.  Moreover some of the page is now using Standard rendering mode instead of the Quirks, which means they will appear uniform across browsers and compatible with future browsers!

    • I've removed the If I was the President link.  Not many people were interested there, and it was used to send scams!  If you are interested interested there, please feel free to contact me on the Cbox.  When there were more than 100 of you, I'll restore the page and then put a more advanced security measurement there!

    • Here is the summary of the last 2 weeks:
